Look: Unused champagne in Atlanta a sad sight for Braves fans

Braves fans, are you in a good enough place emotionally to see what could’ve been?

This massive shipment of champagne will have to wait a little longer to be opened after the Atlanta Braves failed to close out the World Series in Game 5.

Going into Sunday’s Game 5, Atlanta had been undefeated at home in the postseason. It’s possible that people were even peeling the foil off of the cork of the champagne bottles after they jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning after an Adam Duvall grand slam.

“Not even an Atlanta team could mess this up,” said me inside my head. But they did.

Replacing Morton

The Braves went with a bullpen game in what was supposed to be Charlie Morton’s second start of the series were he not out for the rest of the season after pitching in Game 1 on a broken leg.

The starter was Tucker Davidson who had played in just five major league games prior. He went 2.0 innings, giving up 2 earned runs as the Astros began to claw their way back in a game they eventually won 9-5 without hitting any home runs.

Now if the Braves want to pop the champagne it will have to be on the road. I imagine the box of champagne is being loaded onto a plane and flown to Houston as we speak. Or does Houston have their own champagne? If so, what happens to this box? Does it just go to waste? More questions than answers.
