David Ortiz pays tribute to beloved Red Sox Jerry Remy

The Boston Red Sox community as a whole is heartbroken after Jerry Remy passed away over the weekend.

Folks all over the country remain sad following the news that former Boston Red Sox player Jerry Remy passed away at 68 after a long battle with cancer. Remy was part of the broadcast team for NESN, winning over even more fans with his great work calling games.

Over the years, Remy developed countless outstanding relationships with players. The list includes David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz. As you might have been able to guess, Ortiz was overcome with emotion when he heard about Remy. He made that much clear with his latest Instagram post.

David Ortiz let fans know just how much Jerry Remy means to him on Instagram

Ortiz was a huge Remy supporter. The same can be said for all die-hard Red Sox fans out there. Remy was battling lung cancer and officially stepped away from his role at NESN on Aug. 4 so he could focus on his treatments.

In incredible fashion, Remy made his way back to Fenway Park on Oct. 5 to throw out the first pitch before the Wild Card Game against the New York Yankees. The fans in the stands gave him quite the ovation. It was an incredible scene and Boston went on to win that showdown.

That night just showcased how much Remy meant to the team and the city as a whole. He’s a Red Sox legend through and through. Remy also showed incredible fight over the years in dealing with his lung cancer.

Ortiz is only one of several former players who decided to show love to Remy and his family during this difficult time. You better believe more guys will follow suit in the coming days.
