Starling Marte is a wanted man this offseason and there are several teams who are showing serious interest in signing him.
With some top free agents coming off the board, there’s no question that one of the most sought-after guys remaining is center fielder Starling Marte. The standout continues to impress and now multiple clubs want him to join their lineup.
So, where could the veteran outfielder be heading? According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, at least six teams have reached out to Marte to show interest. This should come as no shock. With that said, where will he end up?
The Houston Astros look ready to go all-in for Starling Marte
Per Heyman, the Phillies, Yankees, Mets, Astros, Rangers, Marlins, and several others are taking a look at Marte. According to fellow MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the Houston Astros have an incredibly high interest in Marte. Per Nightengale, Houston wanted to take care of business with Justin Verlander, and now they’ve shifted their focus to Marte.
Houston will have some fierce competition to try and sign him, though. The Yankees being among the teams wanting him makes sense too, as Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone are under some serious pressure entering the 2022 campaign.
Marte is coming off a strong 2021 season split between the Miami Marlins and Oakland Athletics. On the year, he hit .310 with 12 homers and 55 RBI. Marte is also known for his outstanding work in the field. Defensively, he really is fantastic.
With him always able to come up with some timely hits too, it’s no wonder that so many teams are chasing his signature. Soon enough we should find out where Marte will be playing next, with countless fans out there excited to see where he ends up.
