The New York Yankees had a disappointing end to the 2021 season, and then they went quiet in the offseason. Once the MLB Lockout ends, when might they make a big move?
New York Yankees fans were not happy with how the offseason was going before MLB announced a lockout on Dec. 2. So far, the Yankees have lost Corey Kluber, Andrew Velazquez, Tyler Wade, Rougned Odor and the team released Clint Frazier after his nightmare season. All they’ve done to replace them is sign Jose Peraza, Ender Inciarte and re-sign Aaron Boone as manager.
As Yankees fans do, they are not happy with the offseason. There are holes across the infield and pitching staff, with shortstop, first base and starting pitching being particular question marks.
Thankfully, there are star players still available in free agency. The shortstop market is still stacked. There’s also recent world champion Freddie Freeman as a long-shot candidate, as well. However, the Yankees could pursue the trade market instead.
The Bronx Bombers traded a number of prospects last season in deals to bring in Anthony Rizzo, Joey Gallo, Andrew Heaney and Clay Holmes, but there is still a lot of value in their prospect pool. There are some very good names out there in the trade market if the Yankees don’t feel like spending top dollar on a free agent.
Who knows when the MLB Lockout will end? All that’s certain is the Yankees have a lot of moves to make if they want to contend once the league returns next season. These five trade pieces should intrigue the Yankees the second the lockout ends.
