The New York Mets are going to have Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer pitching in the exact same game.
The New York Mets already had a certified ace in Jacob deGrom on the roster, but this winter, the team decided to add another one to create a two-headed monster. Prior to the MLB lockout, the Mets signed former division rival Max Scherzer to create a star-studded pitching rotation.
It is unlikely for both deGrom and Scherzer to pitch in the very same regular-season game, but they will both take the mound for their spring training game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday, March 27.

Scherzer was the top free-agent starting pitcher on the open market this past winter. The Mets happened to win the sweepstakes, as they signed him to a three-year, $130 million contract. Scherzer is coming off of 2021 season where he accumulated 2.46 ERA and a league-best 0.864 WHIP in 30 games split between the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers.
deGrom has shown when he is healthy that he is one of the best starting pitchers in the entire league. This past season, deGrom suffered a variety of injuries before he was shut down due to an elbow injury. Through 15 starts, deGrom posted a 1.08 ERA, a 0.554 WHIP and 146 strikeouts over 92.0 innings of work.
The Mets are hoping that having deGrom and Scherzer in their rotation will result in a World Series berth. Fans can get a sneak peek of what the duo can do on Sunday.
