Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates

3 things you missed from Pirates shocking comeback win over Dodgers

The Pittsburgh Pirates completed a shocking comeback against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Memorial Day. Here’s everything you missed:

Despite holding a 5-4 lead heading into the ninth inning, Los Angeles could not close out Pittsburgh, and the Dodgers have now lost three out of four games to the Bucs so far this season. It’s a rather surprising weakness for an otherwise superhuman Dodgers team.

The Pirates went up 4-0 early in the game, but five runs after the fifth inning helped LA take that slim advantage into the top of the ninth. Unfortunately for the Dodgers, Craig Kimbrel could not close the door.

An error by usually sure-handed first baseman Freddie Freeman gave the battlin Bucs the lead.

What else you missed: Pirates get the last word in

As the official MLB account tweeted in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, this is why you play all nine innings.

As for the Bucs, they got in one final word as well — actually, it’s technically seven words.

You can’t count out those Battlin Buccos.

What else you missed: David Bednar gets his redemption

Bednar has been stellar for the Bucs all season long, but on Monday night he struggled to hold an eighth-inning lead, giving up four hits and two earned runs to give the Dodgers a chance to win it in the ninth.

Thankfully, his teammates had his back.

In the end, Bednar threw 50 pitches and 35 strikes — the former being an incredibly high number for a man used to throwing one inning, three up three down baseball.

When asked about his appearance after the game, Bednar was as unfiltered as ever.

AT&T Sportsnet Pittsburgh really should’ve seen that one coming.
