Ozzie Guillen takes MLB Twitter war with Jon Heyman to the next level

Former Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen is in a Twitter war with MLB insider Jon Heyman.

Former MLB manager Ozzie Guillen made some waves in the MLB news cycle regarding his comments about Chicago White Sox skipper Tony La Russa. Guillen was incredibly critical of La Russa, calling him “Rick Renteria with credentials.”

After the comments were spread on social media, MLB insider Jon Heyman responded to them, asking if it’s possible for someone to get someone else’s job by “insulting them on a postgame show.”

Well, Guillen saw the tweet from Heyman, and it began a lengthy exchange between the two.

Heyman did respond to Guillen, highlighting the comments he made about La Russa and the comparison to Renteria. That, and he brought up Guillen interviewing for the San Diego Padres job even after saying he did not want to manage. Heyman then said that he is negative about Guillen after “observing [him] up close in Miami.”

That is when Guillen said it was time to make things personal. And by personal, he issued a challenge for Heyman to meet him in the ring for charity.

Heyman was not on board with the challenge, instead saying he will donate $500 to Guillen’s charity of choice if he does the same for his charity of choice.

The White Sox are underperforming in 2022, who won the AL Central last season. They are five games behind the Minnesota Twins for first place in the division and are 3.5 games back for the third Wild Card spot as of July 13. La Russa has caught a bunch of heat throughout the first half of the season due to the team’s performance and his decision-making from fans and media alike.

Guillen managed the White Sox from 2004 until 2011. During his tenure, he helped managed the team to a World Series title in 2005. After he went 678-617 with the White Sox, Guillen signed on to manage the Miami Marlins in 2012. His stint lasted one season, as he was fired by the team after going 69-93.

For those wondering if a Guillen vs. Heyman fight was going to happen, the answer is no, per the MLB insider.
