Noah Syndergaard trade details: Phillies land former Mets pitcher at deadline

The Philadelphia Phillies were able to get a starting pitcher at the trade deadline, and it was none other than former New York Met Noah Syndergaard.

The Philadelphia Phillies were in the market for a starting pitcher heading into the trade deadline. In the final hour of the cut-off point for trades, the Phillies were able to land a veteran option, and a familiar face from the NL East.

According to Jayson Stark of The Athletic, the Phillies have acquired Noah Syndergaard from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for Mickey Moniak and another prospect.

Syndergaard was one of the Angels’ top free agent signings this past offseason, as they sgined him to a one-year, $21 million contract. With the Angels in shambles following a disastrous start to the season that led to the firing of manager Joe Maddon, they became sellers. In fact, they were even listening to offers for Shohei Ohtani.

Now, Syndergaard is heading to Philadelphia, where he will reunite with former Mets teammate Zack Wheeler.

This season, Syndergaard has a 3.83 ERA, a 1.213 WHIP, a 5-8 record, 64 strikeouts, and 22 walks in 80.0 innings (15 starts).

Moniak split time between the major and minor leagues this season. In 18 games with the Phillies, he slashed .130/.184/.152 while recording two RBI, four runs scored, and six hits.

The Phillies were able to not only get David Robertson to add to their bullpen once again, but they were able to bring in Syndergaard to help them in their chase for a Wild Card berth. Oh, and for those wondering, the Phillies do play the Mets seven times in the month of August, so there is a chance that Syndergaard gets to face off against his former team.
