Expect these three Red Sox players to be gone from the roster by September 1.

At the trade deadline, the Boston Red Sox bought, they sold, and they stuck with what they had. It was a platter of everything possible. Actually alive in the American League Wild Card race, it’s very unlikely they will pull off a miraculous late-season run.

Between now and September 1, we can still expect the Red Sox to do some unexpected things. Who had them nabbing Eric Hosmer at the trade deadline?

Not so unexpected will be these three players losing their roster spots. Between now and September 1, expect these three to be on the roster bubble for the Red Sox.

1) Red Sox roster doesn’t need Yolmer Sanchez

Yolmer Sanchez isn’t offering the Red Sox much more than an infield option. Able to play multiple positions on the dirt, he’s a 30-year-old journeyman whose time in Boston is dangerously close to ending. He hasn’t hit this year in the opportunities he has gotten. It’s only a matter of time before he joins Jackie Bradley Jr. as the next Red Sox player who gets designated for assignment.

Players like Sanchez can win more playing time. Boston could certainly use a bench player like him on the roster. However, with an underwhelming start to his career with the Red Sox, they are probably just waiting for a better choice.

Sanchez is out of minor league options so he would have to be DFA’d in order to remove him from the 26-man roster. The only thing he can do is start hitting before this happen. Considering his resume, it’s unlikely to occur.
