Harry Caray hologram at Field of Dreams game lights Cubs, MLB Twitter ablaze

While the MLB Field of Dreams game is full of nostalgia, having a Harry Caray hologram sing ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ was a bit much.

One of the most beautiful things about the MLB Field of Dreams game is the efforts that the league and teams involved take to make it feel like a true throwback. The old uniforms, seeing Ken Griffey Jr. and Sr. playing catch, and so much more fill fans and players alike with nostalgia.

So with the Chicago Cubs facing the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday night in the 2022 edition of the game, it was fitting that the late, great broadcaster Harry Caray would be honored. The only problem is that FOX and Major League Baseball might’ve gone a touch too far in trying to include the Cubs legend.

During the seventh-inning stretch, the broadcast (and presumably the park too) had a Harry Caray hologram come out and sing the iconic “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” as he did so many times at Wrigley Field.

Harry Caray hologram singing ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ at Field of Dreams game gets fans buzzing

Fans were already talking about the MLB Field of Dreams game, but this really got them buzzing, and not really in a great way.

Again, honoring Caray on this stage and in this moment was the right move for baseball. But this was probably not the right way to go about it. An old audio clip of Caray singing the classic ballpark tune would’ve sufficed.

Good job, MLB. Way to make what could’ve been a good moment an awkward one. Thankfully, nothing can ruin a good baseball game in a cornfield entirely.
