The San Diego Padres entered Saturday night down 2-1 in the National League Championship Series to the Philadelphia Phillies. The night prior, the Padres’ comeback attempt ended in the ninth inning, losing 4-2 in Game 3. But the Padres got off to a strong start to Game 4.
As he stepped into the batter’s box with two outs, Padres third baseman Manny Machado was greeted by a chorus of boos and “Manny Sucks” chants from Phillies fans at Citizens Bank Park. Machado then responded with a solo home run to left field to give San Diego an early 1-0 lead.
Machado rounded first base, and decided to troll Phillies fans by holding his hand to his right ear.

Machado’s solo home run helped the team go on a rally. Immediately afterwards, Josh Bell hit a single, Jake Cronenworth walked, and Brandon Drury hit a two-run double to center field to give San Diego a 3-0 lead.
After the Phillies removed starting pitcher Bailey Falter and brought in Connor Brogdon, Padres shortstop Ha-Seong Kim increased their lead to 4-0 on an RBI single to left field.
Machado heard the chants and the boos, and he responded with a home run on a taunt on the road.
