New York Yankees fans wanting change in the organization after their ALCS sweep may not like a recent report about the team’s plans.
To say the New York Yankees fanbase is upset, angry, and fed up after another early postseason exit is a massive understatement. Once again, the Yankees were unable to get past the Houston Astros in the playoffs, this time losing in four straight games in the American League Championship Series.
Some Yankees fans have called for the heads of general manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone for the team’s inability to compete against the Astros, and their struggle to beat the Cleveland Guardians.
Yankees fans are not going to like the latest report.
According to SNY’s Andy Martino, most in the Yankees organization believe that owner Hal Steinbrenner will ask for Cashman to come back, as his contract expires this winter.
Later on in the report, Martino says that Boone is expected to return as Yankees manager next season if Cashman returns.

Martino does bring up the only way where it could seemingly go a different direction is if “fan vitriol becomes so toxic that Steinbrenner decides he must initiate a GM change that no one believes he wants to make.”
After the 2017 season, where New York was one win over the Astros to advance to the World Series, the organization decided to part ways with then-manager Joe Girardi. After a search, the Yankees hired former player and hero of the 2003 ALCS in Boone, who had previously been in ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball booth.
There’s no denying that Boone does have regular season success, as he became the first manager to lead a team to the postseason in each of his first five seasons. The issue has been his decision-making. That was evident throughout this postseason run, with multiple examples.
In Game 3 of the ALDS against the Cleveland Guardians, Boone opted to go to Clarke Schmidt in the ninth inning with a 5-3 lead in relief of Wandy Peralta, who surrendered a single and double. Schmidt surrendered a one-run single to Amed Rosario and a walk-off, two-run single by Oscar Gonzalez.
Then, there was Game 1 of the ALCS. Schmidt got out of a jam in the fifth inning. Already facing the three batter minimum, Boone decided to bring Schmidt back in the sixth inning, and he surrendered two solo home runs to Yuli Gurriel and Chas McCormick to break the 1-1 tie.
in Game 3 of the ALCS, Boone decided to pull ace Gerrit Cole in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and no outs. Despite that Cole is one of the highest paid pitchers in the game, the decision was made that he should not work out of the jam. Instead, they brought in Lou Trivino, who surrendered three runs to increase New York’s deficit from 2-0 to 5-0.
Not to mention the constant changes to the lineup throughout the ALCS. They had three different leadoff hitters (Gleyber Torres, Harrison Bader, and Anthony Rizzo) and three different starting shortstops (Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Oswald Peraza, and Oswaldo Cabrera) throughout the series.
Boone was signed to a three-year contract with an option for a fourth season last winter when the team was eliminated by the Boston Red Sox in the 2021 AL Wild Card Game. While Boone has the regular-season wins to his record, there is no glossing over the fact that he has not made it to the World Series once in his five years as the team’s skipper.
All fans can really do is wait for some sort of announcement from the team announcing Cashman’s and Boone’s future with the team, and their plans for the offseason and the 2023 campaign.
