This offseason could be a big one for the Chicago Cubs in a good way. The team hasn’t gone into full rebuild mode. Last winter, they did continue to make additions and should make an even stronger push this winter to better the ball club.
Fans have been dreaming for weeks already about what lies ahead for the Cubs. Will they be big spenders or make another half-hearted attempt at bettering the roster?
Closing our eyes, hoping for the best, and dreaming a little bit while also staying in the realm of possibility (Shohei Ohtani isn’t coming to the Cubs), this is what a dream Cubs starting lineup for the 2023 season could look like.
Chicago Cubs starting lineup: Trea Turner batting first, SS
The dream Cubs lineup begins with Trea Turner at the top playing shortstop. A very realistic major free agent addition they could make, Turner is coming off of a fantastic season with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He’s no longer just a speedster. Turner has grown into somewhat of a power hitter. He scores runs and produces them, too.
Before snapping awake and realizing this is all a dream, let’s remember this could really happen. While not every player in this dream scenario will end up with the Cubs, Turner is a strong possibility.
The Cubs were expected to pursue a major shortstop last offseason when guys like Carlos Correa were available. Correa will once again hit the open market. However, many will agree it’s Turner who would be the bigger prize to add.
Any starting lineup with Turner at the top is a major threat. In the National League Central, the Cubs can get right back in the race.
