These three teams should get involved in the MLB rumors involving the Miami Marlins and their willingness to trade a starting pitcher.

The free agent market for starting pitchers is barren. Teams looking to bolster their rotations will need to look at a potential trade. One of the MLB rumors to keep an eye on comes from Florida where the Miami Marlins are reportedly shopping four starting pitchers.

Pablo Lopez, Trevor Rogers, Jesus Luzardo, and Edward Cabrera are all available in trade talks according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. The franchise is already loaded with starting pitchers with reigning National League Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara leading the way.

The Marlins have a shot at flipping one of these young and controllable arms before Opening Day to bring in a much-needed bat. Every ball club out there should be looking to get involved in these MLB rumors. It’s these three that should get a deal to the finish line.

1) MLB rumors: Why the Cardinals should trade for a Marlins pitcher

The St. Louis Cardinals are a perfect match for the Marlins and a trade. Their organization is loaded with position players both in the majors and minors. They have a ton of options for Miami to look at. Their outlook in the rotation isn’t nearly as deep. Four of their expected Opening Day starting pitchers are free agents after the 2023 season. Only Steven Matz, the weakest of the five, is under contract beyond this coming year.

Any of the pitchers would be a solid addition for the Cardinals. Lopez is the most talked about, but they should remain open-minded about the other three. For what it’s worth, only Cabrera is out of minor league options. This could have them thinking about Lopez, Luzardo, or Rogers as a more ideal fit.

From the Cardinals, Alec Burleson might be the top name to target. He isn’t expected to have a starting role in St. Louis this year. He absolutely mashed in the minors last season. He’s a controllable power hitter the Marlins could immediately plug into the lineup.

St. Louis would need to include at least one more player in the deal. With Willson Contreras locked up, catching prospect Ivan Herrera is an additional option to send to Miami for one of their young arms.
