Controversial former San Francisco Giants player Aubrey Huff criticized first baseman Brandon Belt after leaving for the Toronto Blue Jays.
When it comes to former San Francisco Giants first baseman Aubrey Huff, he is no stranger to controversy. From his hateful tweets, to his controversial comments regarding the Giants’ hiring of Alyssa Nakken as a full-time coach on the team. His comments regarding Nakken played a factor in the team disinviting him to the team’s 10-year anniversary of their 2010 World Series title in 2020.
After being suspended for a year for tweeting COVID-19 misinformation, Huff has since gotten his Twitter account back in December. Huff decided to criticize former teammate Brandon Belt recently.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Belt had agreed to terms with the Toronto Blue Jays on a one-year, $9.3 million contract. This officially brought an end to his 12-year tenure with the Giants.
Aubrey Huff deletes tweet criticizing Brandon Belt signing
Huff sent out a tweet that has since been deleted criticizing Belt, posting his 2022 stats and insinuating that a child could put up better numbers than him. Belt was actually limited to just 78 games after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage in his right knee.
Well, one Twitter user decided to put Huff on blast by putting up his numbers in 2011 and 2012, his final two years with the team after signing a two-year, $22 million contract.
The Giants declined Huff’s club option at the end of the 2012 season. That was the final year he played in the major leagues.
Belt was selected in the fifth-round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Giants, and made his debut in 2011. He had been with the team ever since, winning two World Series titles and making the All-Star Game in 2016.
In his 12 years with the team, Belt slashed .261/.356/.458 while recording 175 home runs, 584 RBI, 628 runs scored, and 1,146 hits.
Belt now joins a Blue Jays team that is looking to make a deep run in the postseason.
