Yankees news: Why this year’s version of ‘locked in’ Giancarlo Stanton is different

New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton could have the best season of his career if he remains healthy.

We’re already a week into Spring Training, and for the Yankees’ star outfielder Stanton, it couldn’t have started any better. On the very first pitch of Spring Training, Stanton tattooed Washington Nationals right-handed pitcher Cory Abbott’s right leg with a 112 mph liner.

His entire demeanor and approach have seemed so exhilarating to start Spring Training and the vibe has been contagious in the clubhouse. Yankees manager Aaron Boone had some great things to say to NJ.com about the 33-year-old outfielder as well.

“He’s looked great. Being this early, he’s pretty locked in. His at-bats in our live sessions (the ball was) really jumping. They were really good. He’s a way better hitter. That’s what I think.”

Yankees: This year is different for Giancarlo Stanton

After suffering his long battle with Achilles tendinitis last season, Stanton is ready to have a healthy season in pinstripes. Even with Stanton missing a significant amount of time, the Yankees still found a way to be dominant at the plate, leading the American League in home runs (254), total runs with 807, and RBIs with 764. After his Spring Training debut, Stanton told MLB.com that he thinks this year they could be even better.

“When we’re all out there, it’s a force to be reckoned with. We just work off these days. As many days as we can get close to our full lineup out there, it’s a fun look and preview for this year.”

It seems like Stanton is referring to himself when he mentions, “When we’re all out there.”

He is 33 now, and the past few seasons haven’t been the kindest to his body. Since hitting 59 home runs in his final season in Miami, it has been injury after injury for Stanton in pinstripes, but with a new attitude and confidence at this stage in his career, we could be in the midst of one of the best seasons in Stanton’s career.
