Yankees fans to riot as spring training star sent down ahead of Opening Day

New York Yankees fans were disappointed that the team sent down a top prospect and star throughout spring training ahead of Opening Day.

The New York Yankees officially open up their 2023 season on March 30, when they host the San Francisco Giants. That means that manager Aaron Boone has some decisions to make in regards to the Opening Day roster. That means that players participating in spring training will either be sent down to the minor leagues, or will be moved on from all together.

Yankees fans are not going to like the latest announcement from the team regarding one of the team’s top prospects and a star throughout spring training.

On Thursday night, the Yankees official Twitter account announced that they have optioned outfielder and No. 2 overall prospect Jasson Dominguez to minor league camp.

Let’s just say that there were some Yankees fans that were not happy with the announcement.

Yankees fans not happy about Jasson Dominguez getting sent down to minor leagues

Look, realistically, Dominguez wasn’t going to crack the Opening Day roster. He had only played a literal handful of games above Single-A (five games with Double-A Somerset). So, his chances of making the major league roster at the start of the 2023 season never seemed plausible.

But in the spring, Dominguez opened up a lot of eyes within the fanbase and the organization. That can be attributed to his ability to obliterate baseballs out of ballparks. Seriously, his power is unreal when watching him make contact with a home run ball.

In 11 spring training games, Dominguez recorded a .455 batting average, a .520 on-base percentage, a 1.045 slugging percentage, four home runs, nine RBI, eight runs scored, and 10 hits in 22 at-bats.

While Dominguez won’t be on the Opening Day roster, but there is always the chance he makes his way to the Bronx later in the season if he impresses in Double-A and Triple-A.

Dominguez was never expected to start the season on the Yankees roster, but he left one heck of an impression on the fanbase, as they will patiently wait for him to make his official debut in pinstripes down the road.

Now, Yankees fans will be keeping their eyes peeled to see if top prospect and shortstop Anthony Volpe cracks the Opening Day roster.
