The Philadelphia Phillies have started slow and now they have bad injury news for first baseman Darick Hall after a new update.
On Wednesday night as the Philadelphia Phillies were taking on the Yankees, first baseman Darick Hall attempted to stretch a hard-hit single into deep right field into a double, which now could cost him a few months on the injury list.
It was first reported by the Phillies that Hall exited the game with a right thumb sprain, but as of the Phillies’ home opener on Friday night, the first baseman will need to undergo surgery for a torn ligament in the right thumb.
Even though the timeline of the recovery is not clear, Hall does expect to be back this season. During an interview, Hall stated that the surgery is set for Wednesday and that this is not a season-ending surgery. Hall also explained that it was not a major surgery, and all the doctors are going to do is put in a patch and drop an anchor.
Phillies news: Philadelphia has plan in place after Darick Hall injury
With the news about Hall being out for a good amount of time, The Phillies have called up Kody Clemens, Roger Clemens’s son, who will get the start at first base. This will be the team’s proverbial Plan C after Rhys Hoskins tore his ACL at the end of the spring.
Clemens was a rookie last with 127 plate appearances with the Tigers, where he hit .145 with four doubles and five home runs. The Phillies traded Matt Vierling and Nick Maton for Clemens and Gregory Soto back in January. There is also a possibility of moving Alec Bohm to first base and have Josh Harrison or Edmundo Sosa play third base.
With Hall only being out for part of the season, and having options to be able to play other players at first base. Philadelphia has set themselves in a good position to be able to move forward through the season.
